Hell yeah!! I know most of you Death Metal freaks were satisfied with DECAPITATED’s last album and are looking forward to the next VADER CD but does anyone care about a another Polish Death Metal band going under the hateful banner HATE?
This is my first meeting with these four suffering souls led by a character with immense charisma who calls himself Adam The First Sinner, evil. The band has existed for more than a decade now but they’ve never been a big name because of their extreme foundation in everything they do. I believe “Awakening Of The Liar” is their third album, well, all I can say is “well met guys”; this is the sound of damnation coming from below. Some may laugh at the bands evil and satanic imagery but truth is there’s seriousness and a strong dedication towards the evil one, which imbues this unholy album with spirit, don’t laugh!!!
It’s hard not to mention MORBID ANGEL when you listen to “The Awakening Of The Liar”, the vocals are very close to sounding like Dave Vincent’s early guttural incantations on “Altars Of Madness” and “Blessed Are The Sick” but there’s definitely more to it. I think they have a lot more in common with America’s defunct (but apparently reunited) BRUTALITY in their technical inputs and drum blasting.
So another round of Polish Death Metal is what you get, the good stuff I might add. It’s that good it makes HATE a competitor for the throne, no that’s not me bragging, it’s awesome and that’s it. Real Death Metal fans will love the tracks found on this album; already on the first track “Flagellation” the band makes perfectly clear what they’re about: brutality, hate, technical mastery, strange melodic twists and ferocious speed. At the third track “Close To The Nephilim” we see some slower tempos, which still retain an extreme feel with background howling and winds moving around the onslaught of Death Metal riffs and obtrusive tapping solos, (takes a deep breath), melodies run at high speed spiralling in a genuine esoteric sound, the most unique track on the album.
“The Scrolls” and the title track are also good recommendations, the latter again has some very filthy almost esoteric melodies and the drums are beaten to their death. “Grail In The Flesh” is an atypical acoustic instrumental, not the kind that let’s you relax and think happy thoughts, you just sit there and wait for the next amplified Death Metal attack.
So in case you what to broaden your horizon on Death Metal just a little more, “Awakening Of The Liar” is one of the albums you should be looking after. The extremity of Eastern Europe is about to rise, especially on the Death Metal front and HATE are the hungriest among the hordes, feed them!!!! (Online March 16, 2004)
