Shadows Land - Ante Christum (Natum)

I really donít have any time to lose, so letís get straight there from the beginning. This album is awful: the name of the band sucks badly, the artwork too and the worst is there when you listen to their music. This Polish band certainly has Ďartisticí pretensions, but I guess Iím not able to understand them, because their music is too destructured, the vocals that are almost Death Metal have too many effects on them and this has the power to piss me off.

So, SHADOWS LAND have the merit to play their own thing and to have a special style thatís quite hard to describe. But is that such a good thing? Iím not sure of it! It really gives me the feeling to be empty and without soul, but then with a strong capacity to annoy and stress you up. And their cover of MAYHEMís ďPagan FearsĒ, the only track thatís almost ok on the album, has no decent feeling at all and doesnít even stick with the rest of the album. So letís forget about them and Iím gonna listen back to some old IMPERIAL, that will sound like magic compared to this one! (Online March 24, 2004)
