Mercyful Fate - Melissa

From the grandfather of all dark Metal King Diamond releases one of the coolest albums I have heard in a long time. I remember when this was first released on vinyl, I was immediately fixated on the writing and what he was talking about. I listened to this album over and over again.

Sadly, the production of the album was poor so in a timely fashion KD sounds like he is singing through a tin can whereas once it sounded haunting and ominous. I think if he and the boys ever decided to re-master this CD it would still standout as being one of the best Dark Metal acts. Songs that I still find myself listening to once in a while list as “Melissa”, “Black Funeral” and “Satan’s Fall”. However, in the right mood this CD can still send goose bumps up my spine.

If you have been a fan of KING DIAMOND and you didn’t realize he performed with anyone else you need to go out and buy this CD. If you are just starting to get into the “satanic” Heavy Metal then you should listen to a band that actually put it on the map. (Online April 29, 2004)
