VOMITORY are back with their fifth attack titled “Primal Massacre“. As I only have their debut “Raped In Their Own Blood“, I can only compare it with this one and here the new long player clearly falls short. The original Sweden sound is gone completely, instead the newer material rather goes into the VADER direction, yet without reaching their quality level.

OK, the music is damn brutal and also very fast, but still it is not really memorable. The slow, SLAYER-like passages on “Gore Apocalypse“ are rather the exception than the rule, we won’t get much variety on this CD. Sure, the CD is played very professionally, but hundreds of other bands do the same. And is speed and brutality everything? I doubt it.

Also worth mentioning is the song “Condemned By Pride“, which is a lot slower than the rest of the material and also could very well have stood on “Raped In…“. Heavy Shit, this killer song! Basically a good album, but just one of many. Better invest in the new CDs by KATAKLYSM and FEARER, there you get more value for money. (Online May 8, 2004)
