Ghoulunatics - Sabacthany

GHOULUNATICS have always been a band that was plagued with solid live performances and lackluster studio sessions. Perhaps there was too much energy to contain on disc, or they just fall flat when not performing in front of their frenzied fans, bit whatever it was, I was always much more anxious for a GHOULUNATICS show then I was for an album.

So it was with a certain apprehension that I put “Sabacthany” into my CD player, but I have to say, whatever problems they had getting their mixture of Death Metal/Rock and groove transposed onto a digital source is, for the most part, gone. Not to say the disc is perfect, however, but the GHOULUNATICS are well on their way to finally releasing a solid studio disc.

GHOULUNATICS rely heavily on what makes their songs successful: groove and that’s what these songs are full of. For the most part, this is some great toe tapping head nodding music, but at times it feels a little too loose. If they were to tighten things up, everything would come together some much better.

There’s definitely solid material throughout and hopefully this album is just a sign of better things to come. (Online May 7, 2004)
