Two years after the great "A Dead Poem"-album the Greeks of ROTTING CHRIST provided us with its successor "Sleep Of The Angels", hoping to emulate the success and high creative level.
Musically they roughly go into the same Gothic Metal-direction that they already had explored with the predecessor, but unfortunately I have to say that they could not reach the class of "A Dead Poem" anymore, maybe they are too close to its sound and what also becomes pretty obvious is the fact that they have reduced the atmosphere of the songs.
"Der perfekte Traum" is a representative of the atmospheric class, with German vocals, too, courtesy of Eddy Kante, just like "Delusion"; but the problem of this long-player simply is the lack of really outstanding tracks like "Among Two Storms" or "As If By Magic", too many of the compositions pass by rather unnoticed, nice to listen to, but only very little actually sticks.
This is my main point of criticism, because that they are able to write energetic and variable songs already had been proved. So I can only attest ROTTING CHRIST a good album, but which as a whole just doesn't reach "A Dead Poem".
