For a while Jorn Lande had definitely been one of the busiest singers of the current Metal scene, VAGABOND, ARK, MUNDANUS IMPERIUM, THE SNAKES, MILLENNIUM, BEYOND TWILIGHT, NOSTRADAMUS, plus two solo albums. By now he solely concentrates on MASTERPLAN and his solo career and with “Out To Every Nation“ we get the now third solo album of the Norwegian after “Starfire“ and “Worldchanger“.
For that he signed up HAMMERFALL bassist Magnus Rosén and the three PAGAN’S MIND musicians Jörn Viggo Lofstad (guitar), Stian Kristoffersen (drums) and Ronny Tegner (keys) and like already with the previous album the first impression was pretty unspectacular, but already knowing this I continued to listen my way into the album and slowly, but very surely the album grows on you.
Contrary to the current standard “Out To Every Nation“ does not feature any intro and starts out energetically with “Young Forever”, Hard Rock with several Metal elements (listen to the guitars and the double bass passages), tight rhythm section and the usually expressive voice of Jorn, culminating in a very catchy and intense chorus, just as catchy as the following title track, containing an especially inspired vocal performance by Mister Lande.
Also worth mentioning is “Vision Eyes“, which starts out very much widescreen, as a kind of semi ballad, very epic and with a huge chorus, just to suddenly lash out with pressing double-bass and a great guitar attack by Jörn Viggo, to close off in mid-tempo, very strong, dynamic song! That he also masters the pure ballads is proved by “Behind The Clown“, very emotional and intense again, while the following “Rock Spirit” stomps through the speakers with tremendous power, the lyrics are a bit odd, but “Michael” will know why he “wants to rock“, I am sure!
It’s good to hear that despite his many contributions with other bands the quality of the songs has not suffered at all, quite the contrary, he has rather assimilated elements from them into an original, powerful and especially good whole, which is marked by a tight performance of the whole band and a very inspired delivery by Jorn himself, covering the whole spectrum from velvet to sand paper.
Hard Rock, as it is supposed to be, intense and coming straight from the heart! (Online August 10, 2004)
