Yawn.
These guys have got to be one of the most boring Death Metal bands out there. To be honest, I was expecting fast and violent when I first heard of the band’s name, something like GORGASM or CANNIBAL CORPSE.
I get something like SIX FEET UNDER, with every element of Death Metal that I hate being included in the music, and every element I like is absent. The riffs are predictable, repetitive and extremely simple. There is no element of danger or extremity to them at all, and all of the songs are mid-tempo, so it seems that they’ve been playing the same song for AGES. The other thing is the drumming, and they plod away with the same 4/4 rock beat throughout the whole song, in every song. I wouldn’t have minded a groove oriented Death Metal song or two, but the whole album being that style just bores me to death. I’ve actually thought hours had passed when I was listening to the CD, when only 3 songs had been played.
The other thing that really bothered me was the vocals. There is the typical Death growl, which was shabbily done, and there is this belching sound that they pass off as vocals. It seems that the vocalist is belching into the mic, and it’s annoying.
I can honestly claim that this is what Nu-Metal would sound like if the bands playing that style opted to use deep growls as vocals. This album is just so damn boring and repetitive. (Online September 14, 2004)
