The 5-track EP “Sortilège“ by the band of the same name is a big piece of French Heavy Metal history. Originally released in 1983 via Dutch cult label Rave-On, the disc brings us demanding Metal fodder that should give any supporter of the 80s a wet spot in the pants.
The beginning of „Amazone“, for example, might have inspired Chuck Schuldiner to his DEATH classic “Evil Dead”. The music should appeal to fans of IRON MAIDEN and MERCYFUL FATE alike, as it is equally demanding as highly melodic. Pure riffs, great riffs, enthusing choruses and the emotional, but still powerful voice of front man Zouille don’t miss their target.
On the CD version you also get three English language versions of the songs “Bourreau“, „Gladiateur“ and „Amazone“, plus English versions of three songs off their follow-up album “Metamorphosis“, which are no second to the originals. (Online September 23, 2004)
