Band History - Let Me Dream (Online Nov. 2004)

Let Me Dream

Jani Koskela, Janne Peltoranta & Teemu Peltoranta formed the band in 1989. Jani was doing the guitars and writing the songs, but otherwise it took some time to settle the member’s positions in the line-up. Before the first demo in 1992 the band had started to call themselves as CONGESTION. Jani was now doing the guitars/vocals, Teemu keyboards and Janne drums. The sound on the first demo was dark, heavy & atmospheric, like it is today. The influences came from Metal sub-genres, such as Death, Black, Doom & Thrash, but the band also had a strong Gothic & Dark Rock influence in their music.

Marko Tuominen joined the band in 1993. Besides the bass guitar parts he also started to do the melodic vocal parts, meanwhile Jani kept on doing the aggressive vocals. The third demo “Bed Of The Ancient River” introduced a very original band and a sound that was totally new thing for the underground scene of that day. The band soon got a “gothic” stamp among the Metal people. This was due the fact that Marko’s voice reminded of traditional Gothic Rock singers and also because the band brought atmosphere to their music with keyboards, another unusual thing in the Metal music scene back then. With full line-up the band was also able to start playing live.

Teemu Peltoranta left the band in late 1993 and Jari Koskela joined the band in early 1994 as a new keyboard player. With this demo the band entered the studio again and recorded their fourth demo. With the new demo the band got a record contract from French label Adipocere Records.

The debut album “My Dear Succubus” was recorded in late 1994 and the band name was changed to LET ME DREAM. The album came out in March 1995 and got good critics in Magazines like Terrorizer (UK), Legion (Belarus) & many other underground magazines worldwide.

In 1995, the band recorded a new demo and in early 1996 they toured in Finland with TWO WITCHES. The band failed to find a new record deal and after the next demo in late 1996 the band started to think about the option to release the next CD release by themselves.

After some delays the “Medley Rain” Mini CD came out in 1998 on band’s own Succubus Records label. The band made an promotional video of the song “Medley Rain” and for the first time also got some national media interest from Finland when the video was aired on Finnish Much Music program Jyrki. The self-financed Mini CD also brought some new interest from record labels and the band decided to sign a new record contract with Italian Nocturnal Music.

However, in order to continue the band needed new members to progress. The band had been trying 2-guitar line-up in the past without any success in the long run. In late 1998, the band however found the right guy, Juhana Stolt, to bring some heaviness and new talent into their line-up. In early 1999, the band played a Finnish tour with MIDNIGHT CONFIGURATION (UK) & TWO WITCHES, but felt that they still needed more, a new vocalist. Tuukka Koskinen took over the microphone in April 1999, just early enough to join the band for LET ME DREAM’s first foreign show at Hellgates 999 festival in Tallinn, Estonia.

With the new line-up the band recorded “The Maze” single (Nocturnal Music, 1999) and the second album “Greyscales” (Nocturnal Music, 2000). The band got again national video airplay in Finland with the promo clip for the song “The Maze” and also played two songs live at national TV (Jyrki, Much Music). The band did a Finnish tour with FINNTROLL & ENSIFERUM and later on the same year another tour in Finland with ANCIENT RITES (Bel). After this tour the original drummer Janne Peltoranta decided to leave the band. LET ME DREAM did one more Finnish show with a session drummer Ville Matilainen (NOCTURNAL WINDS) and then started to concentrate on the next album.

The new drummer Marko Jokinen (also in EUTHANAUSEA) joined the band in early 2001. The band rehearsed new songs and performed them live for the first time at one off show in Russia (Banzai Metal Festival, St. Petersburg) and at another show in Estonia (Koff Metal Club, Tallinn). The band started to record the new album in late 2001 and mixed it in different sessions in 2002. In September the band released two new songs on their homepage (+ as limited edition CDr-R single) and played shows in Germany & Belgium. Jan Yrlund (ANCIENT RITES, DANSE MACABRE etc.) started to work on the new album cover, art & lay-out and suggested that the album would be called “Soulshine” after a song by the same title. Another tour in Germany & Benelux area followed in early 2003 and in late 2003 the band returned to Russia, St. Petersburg to play a headliner show in fully packed & almost sold out Orlandina Club.

Nocturnal Music was not able to live up to the band’s expectations to release the “Soulshine” album in early 2004 and the band decided to release their own edition of the album in January 2004. The album included 9 new songs and a video track of the song “Dust Of Time” that was filmed in Orlandina Club, Russia and at the 2003 concerts in Belgium & Holland. Two weeks later the band went to do their 3rd tour in Germany, Belgium & Holland. LET ME DREAM finished that tour by playing their most successful show to date at Celtic Rock Indoor festival (Gummersbach, Germany) in front of 800 people. The magical moment was captured on video and another video “Powered By The Moon” was made to promote the new album. This video will also be included on the official print of "Soulshine".

In June the band packed their stuff and travelled to Romania to play a Metal Under Moonlight show at Club A, Bucharest. The show turned out to be very intensive event in front of very hungry and devoted Metal audience. The band also took an opportunity to visit some historic and mythic places in Transylvania & Walachia, such as the Bran Castle and House of the People.

Meanwhile “Soulshine” still waits its official release date (September/October 2004); the band has kept on writing new material. At the moment the band is working on a new demo that will include darkest & heaviest material that LET ME DREAM (or CONGESTION) has ever recorded. Keep on checking www.letmedream.com for latest news, mp3, video & other stuff.
