Wow what a live album! If it’s one band you know is gonna give you some British bang for your buck it’s Napalm Death. 24 tracks, and almost an hour and fifteen minutes of pure Napalm live bliss! Recorded August 5th 1996 at the Liquid Room in Tokyo, Japan, this is NAPALM DEATH in their rawest, truest state.
Now at first what may dissuade you from checking this one out is the title: “Bootlegged In Japan”... but you really need not worry, as the sound quality is surprisingly great for being an actual bootleg. See the whole idea for the album came about when the band had actually came across several “anonymous” bootlegs from the Japan show... thus inspiring them to release this gem.
I have no beef with this album whatsoever, seriously the music is spot on, so basically what you’re getting is sort of a greatest hits record with a little stage banter in between songs, along with the audience noise. Not to mention they go into another seven songs for the encore, including “Scum” and the DEAD KENNEDY’s cover fave “Nazi Punks Fuck Off”.
When you’ve got an ice chest full of beer and a grill full of meat, there’s only one way to listen to your favourite bands: Live! And this is right up there with MOTÖRHEAD and AC/DC when it comes to live performance quality... Absolutely top notch, and highly recommended! ¡Adios! R.\m/. (Online December 11, 2004)
