What a breath of fresh air!
After witnessing this band live a few months ago, I knew that I had to hear their album once it came out, their performance was simply overwhelming, and their debut does not fall short from my expectations.
Mixing a variety of influences, AUGURY is far from your typical Death Metal band. A variety of vocal styles are utilized, from your basic Death Metal growl, blackened screams and even some clean operatic female vocals. Surprisingly, AUGURY found an excellent mix, not overusing the operatic vocals, as so many bands tend to do, which keeps it from being a novelty, and instead is a great accent.
Musically, AUGURY play a fantastic brand of Progressive Brutal Death Metal with a wide variety of variation interspersed through the songs. At times, there are even some CYNIC-esque passages to be found, which only helps to heighten this already great release.
Every song on this release is noteworthy, and will leave any starving extreme Metal fan more than satisfied. (Online December 21, 2004)
