When I first put this CD on I have absolutely no hope for it whatsoever. I’m not sure what put me off about, probably a mixture of things, but part of me believe that it would be so painfully mediocre that I didn’t even want to put it on.
However, once I worked the courage up to press play, I was pleasantly surprised. PYURIA play a great mix of Death with some Grind-ish elements put in here and there for a little extra kick, like some tobacco sauce in your chocolate milk.
While this is pretty straightforward for the most part, there are a few little surprises thrown in here and there, the odd little drum pattern, or a guitar line, just enough to keep your interest piqued throughout the duration of the disc and to make you want to play it again every once and a while. “Field Court-Martial” is the best track on the CD, as it really culminates all of the influences that were trying to mix together for the CD. The whole thing ends with “Flaunting Moldering Metrics” which has some of the better riffs that the disc has to offer, making it a fitting end to a worthwhile debut. (Online March 15, 2005)
