With Passion - In The Midst Of Bloodied Soil

Monster riffs loom out of the vastness to pummel the senses whilst the drums are more deadly than a barrage of detonating bombs, the vocals guttural and disquieting. The band WITH PASSION the album ‘’In The Midst Of Bloodied Soil’’ is Earache Records 300th release an if you are into Melodic Death Metal then this is the lot for you. Already creating a stir in Northern California WITH PASSION combine exhaustive percussive rhythms with riffs that build and build to crush. The fast passages fly past in a blurry of warp speed limbs whilst the slowed down parts are reminiscent of such Metal luminaries as the PRIEST and MAIDEN.

Death Metal isn’t exactly my strong point but putting aside prejudice to delve into the sonic confusion of WITH PASSION exacts rewards aplenty. Underlying the extreme nature of the music is a group of talented musicians who know how to play Metal. It’s hard to argue with the quality of songs like the riff heavy melodic and technical magnificence of ‘’Train Wreck Orchestra’’ or the classic Metal impetus of ‘’The Last Scripture’’ The mayhem is counteracted by the inclusion of the keyboard layers and fills of ‘’The Scorpions Dance’’ and the acoustic beauty of ‘’The Prophecies Of Hellfire’’ normal service is resumed however as ‘’A Coniferous War’’ does its best to melt the speaker cones. More riffs than SHADOWS FALL and NEVERMORE, speed, technical precision and an all out Metal attack. Can’t really ask for much more, WITH PASSION have the lot. (Online April 6, 2005)
