Children Of Bodom - Trashed, Lost & Strungout

Well guys and gals, until the next full length comes out, this E.P. will have to do. In typical COB fashion, Alexi and Roope provide guitar solos from track to track that are filled with piss and venom. The melodies are still there especially Janne's neo classical keyboard skills and that should make everyone happy, but I think the guys have more to offer musically and evil wise if they laid off the keys.

The title track is pretty aggressive with the polished and raw six-string strumming, but I think the guys could get more medieval if they really waned too. "Knuckleduster" also shows a lot of promise if they just cut out the happy riffs. It's time to forge ahead boys. The first cover on here is an ALICE COOPER classic "Bed Of Nails." They did a fine job with this number and if anyone could capture the attitude and ugliness of a song like's COB. The last track which I think is a total waste and an abomination of a song. ANDREW W.K.'s "She Is Beautiful" is worthless no matter how heavy you try to make it or who covers it. I know the Hate Crew like different music, but this is just shameful. There's nothing with having fun, but this is a song that a beginner could have created. Even though the riffs are heavied up, it's still weak and this is nothing more than what I like to call "Frat Rock." Like I always say, you can't polish a piece of shit!

Out of all of the enhanced CDs I have ever covered from bands, this one has to win an Oscar. This twenty minute documentary of the band hanging out and showing us Helsinki is absolutely mind blowing. It's almost like a retarded mini movie. It opens up with the guys walking into their rehearsal room only to find their stuff stolen. We finally get to see the Spinefarm office in which the boys go to the president and ask him for money. The best part is laid out here when the owner tells them that their last CD "Hatecrew Deathroll" didn't sell well and he was hesitant to cough of the cash. Alexi, being quick on his feet said that they have a single to record and with that money they can get a new place to stay as well. It takes a few minutes, but the head honcho believes in them. What they do with the money is insane. Don't be surprised, but they buy booze, junk and a space. I know Finns love to drink and all, but these guys take the cake. I am not sure who's worse drinkers NIGHTWISH or COB.

If you are leery about buying EPs, don't be here. Although it's all in Finnish, this is worth the price alone. Trust me, watch it and get a darker look into the day and life of BODOM. I have to knock it down a few points because of the ANDREW song, but it's cool otherwise. (Online May 1, 2005)
