Philosopher - Thoughts

The concept of PHILOSOPHER is that the bizarre story world of Howard Phillips Lovecraft serves as a foundation for their Death Metal sound. The execution is not even easily digestable, as there is no straight forward blazing with blasts and stop and go parts here…

Doomy, intricate steamrollers of death metal are on offer here, with deepest gurgling vocals. Those who know the slow MORBID ANGEL songs and who can imagine a whole disc in a similar style can somewhat imagine how “Thoughts” sounds… Technically top and atmospherically very morbid, you can absolutely recommend this album to any fan who rather listens to his music through the headphones, armed with the lyrics sheet.

It’s a fascinating, though no easy but very effective album which I wouldn’t have expected like this from a band from Chemnitz. A song such as “Dreamside” counts among the absolute genre pearls and absolutely stands out!  If the tracks are arranged in a somewhat catchier manner in the future, I believe the guys to be capable of an absolute over-the-top album.

"That is not dead which can eternal lie and with strange Aeons even Death may die." (legendary quotation by Lovecraft) (Online May 7, 2005)
