Frost & Fury - s/t

FROST & FURY, sounds like Black Metal, cold and harsh, but the quartet from the USA definitely is not. The brothers Senovich describe their sound as a mix of CELTIC FROST, JUDAS PRIEST, CANDLEMASS and BLACK SABBATH and are not that wrong with it, if you want to simplify, then Death-y Doom Metal is the best description for what the guys are offering us, thankfully mostly staying away from the much trodden paths of this style.

Two songs are on offer here and the lack of a real drummer doesn’t really become apparent, at the same time it DOES become very apparent that the guys are no greenhorns in terms of song writing. “Only The Dead“ is slow and melodic, yet without falling into the typical Doom sound and add to that a rough, Death Metal-oriented voice. On “Victory In War“ the vocals get a bit harsher and at the same time the song structure adds complexity as well, without getting progressive, but you’ll definitely need to hear this one more often to find the way in.

The production doesn’t give up many points of criticism, even though two songs are not really much to judge FROST & FURY by. Still or maybe because of that I will keep an eye on this band, hear for yourselves, potential definitely is there! (Online May 13, 2005)
