DREAM DEATH: The name, the legend, the myth. OK, I don’t want to exaggerate, the band definitely is not legendary, but at least the guys came up with a damn good Doom Metal album back in 1987, which is not that bad either, is it? Released via New Renaissance Records the good sound is the first that strikes, which had rather been the exception than the rule with the label back then. And of course the music.
Not only epic such as CANDLEMASS, but neither stubbornly following the pure doctrine of at times ST.VITUS. No, the songs are rather mid-paced and are only further enriched by some faster parts. Old TROUBLE might be a good land mark. Add a shot of CELTIC FROST during their “Morbid Tales” times in terms of sound and vocals and you have a damn heavy and super brutal Doom monster of the extra class.
Songs like the slowly starting and then accelerating "Back From The Dead", the loose, but still damn heavy "The Elder Race" or the band hymn "Dream Death", which features all assets of the band, should be enough for fans of the mentioned bands to get this CD. (Online May 24, 2005)
