American NILE definitely have an exceptional position in the Death Metal scene. Their ancient Egyptian concept is researched as well as it is musically realised. And the band gets better and better with every album! In earlier times they sped through on hyper speed, now they have added more and more sluggish, torturously slow parts, where the band without a doubt has its strengths, when the double-bass crush everything in their path, like a tonne-heavy monolith.
The faster parts/songs now are so much more furious now and there still are enough of those. Combined with the rather soundtrack like sounds the new album “Annihilation Of The Wicked“ forms the zenith of NILE’s creativity! This band is exceptional in all areas, the technical aspect is unreached and in terms of creativity and atmosphere it will be a huge challenge to top it off! Very big! Check out tips? Basically all songs, because there are no fillers whatsoever! But “Lashed To The Slave Stick” definitely is an incredible one, one of the best Death Metal songs that I have had the honour to here in my “young” live.
I also definitely want to point out the two long songs at the end of the album, this being “Annihilation Of The Wicked“ and “Von Unaussprechlichen Kulten“ (with its German (!) title). If these still won’t convince you, then I can’t help you anymore… Who had thought that NILE had peaked out with “In Their Darkened Shrines“ should take a close listen to this masterpiece, they got better in every aspect! Of course you will need a few tries to understand the universe of the three Death Metal gods…But be careful…madness will try to take you into its grasp!!! (Online June 7, 2005)
