Capsized - Lick 'Em All

I was a little confused when I received this record from TMO Headquarters. The album artwork was a far cry from what I’ve come to expect from the typical Metal band and upon flipping through the liner notes I saw a band that looked about as un-Metal as possible. Not exactly sure what to make of this record, I figured that it might be a little bit like CLUTCH, but that was probably only due to the bass player’s beard. So, I put it in, hoping at best for some quality Stoner Rock…

…And I was greeted by Hard Rock/Pop Punk. One by one, the tracks flew by, catchy and fun little ditties that for the most parted lasted under 3 minutes each. Nope, there’s really nothing resembling Metal on here, unless a distorted guitar and some loud vocals are all it takes to be a Metal band. To be fair, though, CAPSIZED isn’t really trying to be a Metal band, which only adds to me confusion at receiving this CD to review. If I’m getting Pop Punk records now, what’s next? Smooth jazz?

Overall, CAPSIZED have recorded some listenable Pop Punk with “Lick ‘Em All,” creating an album of fun songs that might appeal to the Pop Punk crowd. It’s not really my cup of tea, but it might be yours. If you like stuff like the later DESCENDENTS, try this one. (Online August 1, 2005)
