Legion - Shadow Of The King

LEGION was formed in 1999 in New Jersey by guitarists Frank and Joe Adamo and drummer Collin Bianchi. They had a clear vision of forming a band in the vein of 70’s/80’s Hard Rock style. They wanted to follow the footsteps of bands such as DIO, DEEP PURPLE or RAINBOW in the future. When they found a fitting singer in Mike Bunk, they were ready to take off.

And that’s exactly what the first disc offers, food for fans of the above-mentioned Heavy Rock acts or of AXEL RUDI PELL, BADLANDS, LUE MURDER or WHITESNAKE, too. You should also add a decent Metal touch, for LEGION provide quite some power and especially the solos are moving. Whether it be up-tempo, epic or bluesy – the band can cut it all. You have to accept slight limitations in terms of sound, but in return the production is nicely dirty.

In fact it sounds better than all this polished big budget stuff of the above-mentioned heroes. In terms of song-writing LEGION have done their homework…Moments of surprise are the only thing you shouldn’t expect, of course. But you shouldn’t do so with DIO & Co. either – you get what you deserve! (Online October 20, 2005)
