World Below - Maelstrom

Hey, you sad ones and slow motion fanatics – haven’t heard a decent Doom disc in a long time? What about Sweden’s WORLD BELOW? WORLD BELOW is an Epic Doom quartet from Sweden, comprised of former members of CENTINEX and CARNAL FORGE. After the great “Sacrifices To The Moon” album, the follow-up is here. And it’s not bad at all either.

The opener „The Dissection Of An Evil Mind“ already tears you into a maelstrom full of sorrow, melancholy and tears. A tristesse full of mourning and pain! “Spiritual Disaster” is a punch into the stomach as well and of course it’s negative in nature! Fine, these leads, I think I’m perverted…It continues this way depression by depression, with the climax being reached with the 14-minute “Epitaph”. For someone who is still happy after that, this should be right up his alley.

You can definitely say that WORLD BELOW have become a lot more sad and darker. The predominant atmosphere on “Sacrifices To The Moon” is still there, but it clearly sounds more doomy…The occasional use of harsh vocals fits in outstandingly, too.

This is recommended for those to whom CANDLEMASS sound too happy, all Doom fans will purchase it anyway! (Online October 22, 2005)
