On their new album southern rockers ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY also put a healthy mix between Stoner Rock, bluesy seventies Doom and a pinch of Death’n’Roll. Wait a moment, “new” wouldn’t be quite correct. Actually it’s a re-recording of the album “River City Revival” (the band’s second release after ‘98’s debut “Rise Again”), which was first released in 1999 on Man’s Ruin Records. Sometimes bluesy, sometimes solemn, the pussies always rock solidly!
The vocals are kept rather aggressive, yet sometimes they possess the spirit of one Robert Plant! In addition there are wafting wah-wah sounds, unique lava riffs or revelling chill-out passages, space rocky or BLACK SABBATH-like, the band conjures up a very “stoned” aura. I think it’s funny that music this emotional takes place on the noise label Relapse out of all labels. The rock-hard mixture between stoned seventies Doom and angry vocals somewhat reminds me of CROWBAR and it’s really good! It’s especially good at entertaining! (Online November 29, 2005)
