Doom riffs and perverted shrieking vocals? Wonder if that’s going to work? In the case of BONGZILLA it does work anyway. Can’t they come up with a more stupid name? I can still remember GROOVEZILLA…This album contains a strong mixture between monotonous Stoner Rock, Sludgecore on drugs, and I don’t know what to think about it. The album’s instrumental side is quite appealing, it creeps monotonously through the speakers and it’s heavy as hell!
But with time this disgusting bawling gets on my nerves, it would rather fit with a guttural Death combo then with a Doom-orientated 70’s-influenced pot-smoking brigade! Maybe that’s exactly what the fans will love BONGZILLA for – whatever: to each his own…Song titles such as “Keefmaster” or “Hashdealer” don’t try to hide what served as the inspiration “Amerijuanican” was/is.
