Fearer - Backfire

And also East Frisia’s blast bards FEARER strike back with a new long player, more brutal than ever. At times “Backfire”, so the title of the album, is really melodic and catchy, but in other places they blast like there is no tomorrow. After the nicely Power Metal-like intro “Evoke”, for example, they unleash a superb hymn with the title song, the way I had missed on the past couple of CENTINEX albums. The following "Pain Will Come" is similar. Slow, BOLT THROWER-like riffing, several Thrash parts, melodic guitars a la old HYPOCRISY or AMORPHIS, plus the alternating vocals between usual growls and OBITUARY like styles.

On "Subjection" the cow fully flies. Superfast blasting in the “Litany" style (VADER) goes hand in hand with Doomy parts, which UNLEASHED could not have done any better. A murderously intense song, no question! "Various Forms Of Defence" continues in style, just a little faster, but still full of variety. With "Eclipse Of Light" they tap the brakes a little again, at least at the beginning, before several blast attacks break through. And holy crap, MALEVOLENT CREATION rarely write such ingenious songs either.

And it continues in this vein, song for song, hit after hit!!! If this CD would have one of the mentioned band names, it would sell like crazy! Now it is up to you guys to help FEARER get there as well. I, who had received the promo CD, have immediately bought the full album. (Online January 3, 2006)
