Actually one would have expected the content of this CD rather from Scandinavia, but it comes from a French band. Since their foundation in 2000, two demos have been released, so it was high time for their debut album „Tellus Mater“, which was released 2005 through Adipocere Records. Their songs have mostly a quick tempo, but through good breaks and much melody they create enough variety not to let the 45 minutes get boring.
The voice of the frontman can be credited as good, it moves rather in the old-school area. But for the fans of old-school Black Metal it most probably contains too much melody and keyboards. You can hardly hear the keyboards at all, cause they only outline the required atmosphere here and there. I would not say that their music knocks me off my feet, but they rise above the average mass, without being something special. I can only advise the Black Metal fans to check out the CD themselves and pass a sentence. Cause on the one hand the band is above average quality, because one seems to know many riff-schemes well enough, already, on the other hand they carry the hopes of French Black Metal.
In the case of this CD I cannot give a clear evaluation, since they are moving on a fine line of taste. So check for yourselves, worst thing that can happen is that you won’t like them. (Online January 23, 2006)
