ONANIZER are a Czech Grind outfit that have left me puzzled to the extent that I'm almost speechless. I mean, what can you really say about an album like this? The Grind itself, where it is to be found, is quite good, short, sharp and very much frenzied and overlaid with insane and fantastically dynamic vocals.
It’s the punctuations and interludes that get me. The odd-clean or piano interludes that just don't fit or the utterly insane chicken vocals in the live track "Russssia" are quite off-putting as I obviously just haven't grasped their sense of humour. With Grind bands it’s just that, humour, that is usually the primary motivation (ignoring the political ones) for their insanity and although this isn't the done-to-death "gore" driven lyrical humour, it is obviously not one I can relate to. At least gore I understand.
So, fairly decent grind, an abundance of insanity, a nonsensical humour and a screaming chicken. "Too Good To Be True"? em, no. (Online February 15, 2006)
