DragonForce - Inhuman Rampage

DRAGONFORCE: moving rather speedily towards the band you either love or hate and only three albums in and five years down the line. Read any review of the third opus ‘’Inhuman Rampage’’ and they will all mention the sheer fret melting speed that this record plays at. The guitar playing alone is nothing short of sensational and the drumming! Well there’s enough energy in Dave Mackintosh’s lower limbs to lift the Space Shuttle into orbit such is the force of his kick.

Apart from the token ballad at albums end ‘’Inhuman Rampage’’ defies logic and belief at just how man can play any instrument at such a monumentally high tempo. The slowed down parts are few and far between, try and catch them during this ferocious workout.

Personally I thought ‘’Sonic Firestorm’’ was the band’s pinnacle but this surely must be it now. How DRAGONFORCE will ever top this incredulous and completely over the top production remains to be seen but lets for now marvel at just how spectacularly Heavy Metal DRAGONFORCE is.

Add in the fact that this album is actually heavier than ‘’Sonic Firestorm’’ in many regards leaving out the more Progressive nature of the previous release. The likes of ‘’Operation Ground And Pound’’ and ‘’Body Breakdown’’ are perfect examples of the extreme Melodic nature of DRAGONFORCE’S music. Drums hurtle, guitars re-arrange atoms and vocals soar to stratospheric level. There’s not a Power Metal nay Metal band on the planet that comes even close to the levels of intensity that this lot put out. I wept at the brilliance contained within the eight minutes of ‘’Cry For Eternity’’ and then got down on bended knee and saluted during the imposing brutality and majesty of ‘’The Flame Of Youth’’

DRAGONFORCE are an amalgamation of all your favourite Heavy Metal bands rolled into one heaving super sonic panoply that could as easily shift mountains as divide opinion. If Clark Kent was a Heavy Metal fan then DRAGONFORCE would be his soundtrack to saving the world. (Online February 18, 2006)
