Iron Maidens, The - World’s Only Female Tribute To Iron Maiden

It’s rare that pure cover bands release outside their closer locale and above that even can sign a record deal. And that brings us to a Californian quartet, cleverly called THE IRON MAIDENS. The name is program in two ways, for one they let IRON MAIDEN live up and for the other it indeed are five maidens on the instruments.

And the album „World’s Only Female Tribute To Iron Maiden“ (I can’t check, if this is true or not) is as through and through MAIDEN as it can be. The cover has been done by MAIDEN’s “own” Derek Riggs and the ladies bear the nicknames “Adrianne Smith“, „MiniMurray“, “Nikki McBURRain“, “Steph Harris“ and “Bruce Lee Chickinson“, so they also have humour.

The track list contains 10 songs from the years 1980-1986, the most “modern” song of the CD is “Wasted Years“, so you can see that they are concentrating on the early years. The song choice is impeccable, because they capture the essence of early MAIDEN and the musicianship also is beyond reproach, even though fans of the band (IRON MAIDEN, not the MAIDENS) might have problems with the vocals, because they are not all that impeccable, other than that everything sounds really good.

Die-hard MAIDEN-o-holics (Hi Chris!) should have this disc! (Online March 13, 2006)
