When you refuse to progress, you have either achieved perfection or you stagnate and flounder, lost in the seas in a forgotten era. The Goregrind genre as a whole has, unfortunately, developed into an out of control monster. In the race to extremity it has become a blur of lifeless, sheer walls of brutality and the impact, in all but a handful of the genre's more noteworthy acts, has been lost.
Sometimes you have to step back in order to go forward and with "Apology For Pathology" HAEMORRHAGE show the rest of the Goregrind scene, once more, what it was that made old CARCASS great and the old sound perfect. The album has a putrid, beefy sound with dynamic vocals and brilliant, distinct riffing. The riffs drive and the dynamics steer the songs into distinctive slabs of filth and aggression, that combine the impact of a heavyweight boxer with the grooves of Disco Stu.
If, like me, you like it old-school and pine to be battered to a bloody pulp by the aural assault of NAPALM DEATH, REPULSION, CARCASS and BRUTAL TRUTH then you could do no better than to pick up a copy of this. But you already knew that, right? HAEMORRHAGE may have been absent for a while, but "Apology For Pathology" is no different than the rest, it just affirms what we already know. This is the best way to Grind! (Online April 6, 2006)
