Sodom - Lords Of Depravity: Part One (DVD)

Tom Angelripper, front-man, only remaining founding member, vocalist and bassist of Ruhrpott-Thrashers SODOM, wanted to do everything right with his first DVD. And he managed to do so with “Lords Of Depravity: Part One”, two discs brimming with content.

Disc 1 deals with the band’s history from the early days in 1982 to the year of 1995. So that is 13 years of SODOM summed up in an entertaining journey through time of more than three hours of length in which Tom tells about the past very much in detail. In the from of Chris Witchhunter, Grave Violator, Frank Blackfire, Michael Hoffmann, Andy Brings and Atomic Steif, some of the former members of SODOM have their says as well, and they do not mince matters. People that had to do with the band, such as ex-managers, Manfred Schütz of SPV record label, procuder Harris Johns, cover artist Andreas Marshall, various journalists and some musicians of other bands contribute to the success of the documentary, too, though. Suitably placed, legendary and cult video and audio documents top of the excellent overall impression.

The second disc does not stick to the time span of its twin, because you get live cuts of various shows from 2001 through 2004 here. You get the classic “Outbreak Of Evil” in Sofia, “Remember The Fallen” at With Full Force, “M-16” during Rock Hard Festival or “Agent Orange” at Wacken Open Air. The choice of songs is mixed and covers all SODOM releases. Video, sound and cuts are excellent and play in the first league of music DVDs! And as a bonus, this “gig” also contains the promotional videos for “Ausgebombt”, “Silence Is Consent” and “Die Stumme Ursel”.

So, as I said above, Onkel Tom absolutely accomplished this mission concerning the first SODOM DVD. If part 2 becomes such a hit as well, the Metal world does not need to worry. (Online April 12, 2006)
