VREID are the successors of WINDIR, whose vocalist Valfar had tragically died. Way less drawn to the Viking theme, VREID rather hit us with Black’N’Roll a la KHOLD, DARKTHRONE and newer SATYRICON, using nearly anything that is Black Metallic. You get to hear majestic mid-tempo as well as straight high-speed blasting, they are not even afraid of electronic trifles.
The tunes sound mature and work outstandingly. I would not have expected such a cool disc, given the rather inconspicuous cover. It grooves, it rips and your cervical vertebrae are cracking, that’s the way it’s got to be. The only thing that annoys me is the concept, which according to the band deals with “grim and hateful historical events of the 20th century”.
VREID also show this military touch visually, the cover is graced by a huge, embroidered, army-like badge which contains the band logo, and in the background, an old warship is chugging along…These Norsemen are crazy. (Online April 24, 2006)
