Alright - we get the point: the two bands on this split CD do not like mankind. If the point didn’t came across by the titles of NAE’BLIS or the fact that there’s absolutely nothing at all known about DOMINION save for the song-titles in the list above the deeply misanthropic character of their music will convince you. Black Metal is of course the weapon of choice if you want to convey that message and the raw, lo-fi variety is what you will get. But not without melody, NAE’BLIS uses some keyboards giving their music a touch of very old ENSLAVED. Also, in no way do the keyboards diminish the cold atmosphere.
Guitar-wise NAE’BLIS uses fast, repetitive and very hypnotizing riffing whilst DOMINION is a tad slower and a little more old school in approach. Both however have such a production that it sounds very lo-fi yet captivating. The vocals also help a lot; both bands have screams that sound really hateful and full of despair. Again the production makes sure the sound is buried, but here the old Black Metal cliché of atmosphere is really relevant.
Both bands are pretty similar in sound (especially with their use of keyboards) with NAE’BLIS being the epic one and DOMINION a little rawer in sound. I prefer the latter because the riffs are more interesting and the drums have a more natural sound. They are close though, quality wise. Oh, has this been done before? And better, you ask? Don’t ask, you know the answer, just enjoy this split for what it is.
