Kovenant, The - In Times Before The Light
This album had first been released back in 1997 through Mordgrimm, THE KOVENANT were still called COVENANT, et they played Black Metal in a DISSECTION vein, but with huge keyboards. Since that, the band of Nagash (oh excuse me, Lex Icon) has changed a lot and gone far away from that violent style in order to reach wider audiences.

And God knows why, THE KOVENANT have decided to re-release their first album. But let me warn you, this is not a stupid re-edition! Yeah, the artwork has been completely changed in a very modern way, and in addition to that, "In Times Before The Light" has been completely changed. It's said it's only been remixed and that some parts have been added, but for me, the difference with the original is so big that I feel like everything has been re-recorded.

All in all, this version is played as if it was a new album of THE KOVENANT, with this very martial side, some electronic aspects, and this makes a kind of 'bridge' between COVENANT and THE KOVENANT. Very surprising and interesting in the way that it allows you to see how a band can see one of their albums a few years after having written it… (Online August 13, 2002)
