Sins Of Thy Beloved, The - Perpetual Desolation
The debut "Lake Of Sorrow" had been denounced as TRISTANIA-copy by some, but as I could not agree with them back then, with "Perpetual Desolation" also the biggest critics should see that there can be no such allegations anymore. They still ship the same waters, but still there are more than enough differences to the divine genre-kings.

At first we have the very harsh voice of Glenn Nordbø, which for sure will divide the masses. Additionally violinist Pete Johansen has been taken up into line-up by now and especially his play makes THE SINS OF THY BELOVED something special inside the scene.

Stylewise you still can categorise the Norwegians as Gothic Metal with alternating harsh and frail vocals, while using less heavy parts, if compared to TRISTANIA, yet especially through the violin with a very interesting atmosphere.

It's difficult to name any songs to go for to check this CD out, but take "Forever" or the very varied "Pandemonium".

Oh yes, there was something else... "The Thing That Should Not Be"... Got it? Exactly! METALLICA. The Gothic Metal-version with the two vocal-styles changes the song into a sound you never would have thought possible. But although the version is really good, purists will turn away in horror...

So all those who still stick up to Gothic Metal, like myself, will get a classy album with an own note with "Perpetual Desolation".
