Delight - Last Temptation
Finally I could lay my hands on the debut of Polish Gothic Metal greats DELIGHT. Their two latest albums "The Fading Tale" and "Eternity" are among the best Gothic Metal albums that I know, so I just had to get "Last Temptation" as well, to complete my collection, the reviews on the site and find out to see, if they had been that damn good right from the start.

Well, you definitely can hear that they "Last Temptation" is their first effort, mostly because of Paula's vocals, which just do not seem to have the same strength and power yet that they showed from their second album on, which is the major gripe that I have with this one, but then again, it is their debut, so… Yet even in this Paula shows the potential that she subsequently tapped on the follow up "The Fading Tale" already.

Musically DELIGHT already, well, delighted me for despite playing Gothic Metal (a genre that I generally like quite a bit) they managed to bring in their own touch, not fearing to scare away potential listeners by also taking up a few elements from bordering genre and also unleashing some double bass and gripping guitar riffs on the listener, very distinctly marking them off the usual sound of this genre.

Second track "Plenitude Is A Perfect Vacancy" is a just as perfect example for this, while the title track "The Last Temptation" leads us into just that with its melancholic atmosphere, measured rhythm and the angelic vocals of Paula…

Overall "Last Temptation" cannot compete with their following masterpieces, but if you take it for what it is, the first ever album of a young band, then you have to acknowledge that they had and still have tons of potential and even if not everything that glitters here is gold yet, this still is a good album altogether and a damn good debut as well!
