Behind a very atmospheric cover, the Finnish THROES OF DAWN released their second album to date: "Dreams Of The Black Earth".
To describe their style "only" as Melodic Black Metal would not be enough, because THROES OF DAWN present a great portion of diversity, which is dominant throughout the whole album. Apart from the "typical" Black Metal (mostly fast, with Keyboards and rough vocals), you can also find acoustic intermezzos, medieval-like melodies and clear vocals.
The Opener "The Withering Goddess (Of Nature)" is a great example of this, because from very fast and furious parts over mid-tempo to calm acoustic passages, everything is there, garnished with sometimes soft, sometimes voluminous keyboards. Additionally a clean voice brings relief form the really nasty sounding vocals of frontman Henri Kaamos, which might be the reason for some interested people to put the CD aside...
The other tracks also show this very moody and variable mixture, crowned by the instrumental "Titania", which showcases a caressing Lead Guitar on a bed of warm keyboards, which plays an elegiac melody that is the acoustic version of the CD's cover.
So who is interested in very varied Black Metal and does not get put off by the very harsh vocals, should get "Dreams Of The Black Earth"
