After a first album, "Demonvoid", that wasn't bad at all, far from that, but that wasn't unforgettable either, FOREST OF IMPALED are coming back with an assassin album, that shows that the band has been able to work and most of all to get a lot better. In a Death/Black Metal style that kicks some ass, "Forward The Spears" is an album that goes at maximal speed all the time, that is gifted with a good sound and that will definitely give you the will to headbang all the time while you'll listen to it.
It's really warfare here, the vocal effects of Marcus Kolar are really good, because he's easily able to skip from a very guttural Death Metal voice to a very screamy Black Metal voice and the overall atmosphere is in between the one in a Norwegian forest and the one in an English suburb. A bit as if FOREST OF IMPALED were right in between TSJUDER and BOLT THROWER.
Of course, many will say as usual, 'but it's not original at all!', but it's so well done and so fucking straight in your face that I won't care. "Forward The Spears" is simply a very good album, period. (Online November 23, 2003)
