Osbourne, Ozzy - Bark At The Moon

Ozzy finally found a replacement guitar player in Jake E Lee and brought together „Bark At The Moon“ to prove to his fans that the death of his dear friend wasn’t going to be the end of Ozzy as we knew him. In Jake E Lee Ozzy found a straight ahead rocker with his own chops and charisma on and off the stage. However, the album that was released wasn’t one of his better ones.

„Bark At The Moon“ has one exception song (which also carries the name of the album) and a few little “B-side” gems. One of the coolest songs yet (in my opinion) that Ozzy has ever written was “Rock’n’Roll Rebel”. This is a total anthem with a real-balls-to-the-wall guitar riff. Jake really gets a shot at coming out and burning up the stage with a song like this. However, this was the first and only song on the album that really kicks ass. The other songs on „Bark At The Moon“ were smothered in Keyboards and silly notions of a happier BLACK SABBATH.

However, in saying this, you can tell that Jake E Lee was an un-tapped well of great song ideas if given the right opportunity. „Bark At The Moon“ is still one of Ozzy staple songs when he hits the road and I pray it always will. Jake is a great player and I was happy to see his entry into Ozzy’s camp.

In short, if you are looking for a cool (somewhat campy) and very commercial album that happens to have Ozzy singing on it, check this one out. If you are a die hard Ozzy fan and you haven’t listened to this album?!? What are you waiting for? (Online March 12, 2004)
