So, for a change Killjoy is working with his main band NECROPHAGIA again, the result is the EP “Goblins Be Thine”. It has not turned out to be the mega hammer, but compared to acoustic special disposal projects such as THE RAVENOUS the music here almost sounds like RUSH.
After a moody organ intro we get an extremely wild Death/Thrasher of the SLAUGHTER (Canada) kind in “Young Burial”, sweeping you away. The songs slows down more and more towards the end, but without losing brutality. “To Sleep With The Dead“ bangs between HAVAYOTH and the sounds of a Captain Future soundtrack and could be perfect chill out music for several horror flicks.
With “The Fog“ they continue in the keyboard sound of the previous tracks, just darker, to then turn into a morbid, almost epic Doom/Death Metal song, which at the end picks up the keyboard theme again. In its atmosphere this one somehow reminds me a bit of DEATH SS. Doomy, sluggish and really abominable is “Sadako’s Curse”, followed by the title track, a quite superfluous sound collage.
At the end the EP brings us a collection of several horror ad jingles and a faded out song (maybe a preview of the new album?). Did I say that this disc is not a great one? Forget that, this EP is more than worth the money. (Online June 7, 2004)
