It seems like lately that everyone who plays Thrash with a dash of melodies thrown in think that it's the real deal. I am sorry to break it to you, but it's not. Thrash was born from the 80's with the likes of OVERKILL, DESTRUCTION and so forth. The production was about as raw as one could get and it was in your face. Although it's 2004, Italy's HATEWORK not only think it's the 80's again, but they get it.
Everything about this album represents retro Thrash from the raw production to the silly song titles like “I.D.T.“ (Italian Drinking Team) to the title track to the sheer simplicity of the compositions. These guys were never sent out on a mission to rewrite the Thrash scene, but just have fun with it. “I.D.T.“ and “Thrash N' Roll“ showcase nothing but rough vocals along with furious guitar licks that never let up and drums that just hammer away. Although these songs may sound dated and vintage, they do it right and are proud of their work. “XXX“ has some riffs on there that could have fit squarely in an old MOTÖRHEAD album. Just look at the photo of the band. They look like a throw back from the 80's. When you hear Max's throat, you will notice that it has a distinct sound to it much like how Bobby “Blitz“s' voice is unique or Schmier's. Max doesn't copy their style by any means, but it's just that distinguished.
To be honest, I don't think I have to write an essay on what Thrash sounds like. This CD is simple and to the point. It's raw, powerful and unapologetic. If you don't know what true old school Thrash sounds like, then I suggest you pick up. No, NOT a SLAYER CD, but a KREATOR or DESTRUCTION CD from the very beginning. Once you heard that, then you can pick up this CD. Make you have this CD in your collection so when friends come over you can drink to it and have a blast. (Online September 29, 2004)
