Avian - From The Depths Of Time

Lance King should be known to many due to his work in acts such as BALANCE OF POWER, PYRAMAZE or DEFYANCE, where he has always done an amazing job. With US Metal band AVIAN he grabbed the microphone again and refined the songs with his neat-as-always vocals. For basically the songs are not extraordinary, but good material at best. The song material often is quite improved by King’s vocals, that often use multiple voices.

The two tracks “Time And Space Part I – City Of Peace” and “As The World Burns” are really great and remind me of BALANCE OF POWER, but the rest just doesn’t stick to my brain. The fact that it was very good musicians who laid down this technically flawless run-of-the-mill CD doesn’t help either. The production by Dave Ellefson (ex MEGADETH) and the mix by Tommy Newton could also use some more power. Good album, not more! (Online February 6, 2006)
