XCVII "How like a winter hath my absence been From thee, the pleasure of the fleeting year What freezing have I felt, what dark days seen With old December's bareness everywhere. And yet this time remov'd was summer's time The teeming Autumn big with rich increase, Bearing the wanton burthen of the prime, Like widowed wombs after their Lord's decease. Yet this abundant issue seem'd to me, But hope of Orphans, and unfathered fruit, For Summer and his pleasures wait on thee, And thou away, the very birds are mute. Or, if they sing, 'tis with so dull a cheer, That leaves look pale, dreading the winter's near." William Shakespeare
The HOW LIKE A WINTER comes out from Shakespeare's sonnet XCVII. The band was born some years ago when words, images and delicate feeling started suddenly dripping from these lyrics. Everything was collected and jealously stored and finally took shape. "The Winter's Near" demo CD was the outcome of this long, long wait. The idea originated from the unison between Dust (voice, piano and orchestra) and Mist (guitars), they started walk along a path where somebody else was waiting…Bane (bass guitar), Agony (violin) and shortly after the two sisters Tragedy and Misery (female vocals) joined the band. "The Winter's Near" demo CD was recorded at Temple of Noise Studios (Rome) in July 2001. It got a lot of good reviews on magazines and webzines all around and after some proposals from European labels the band signed a record deal with US label Martyr Music Group in 2002. In September of the same year the HOW LIKE A WINTER entered again the Temple of Noise Studios in Rome in order to record their debut album titled "...Beyond My Grey Wake" that has been released on March 2003. And now...here we are... The HOW LIKE A WINTER still keep the seeds of melancholic melodies that are about to ripen as fruits wrapped by pale leaves, imbued with the silence of the very birds. Reap with us all impassioned tears that old December will shed again…
