Founded in 1991 by Muhammed Suicmez, NECROPHAGIST wrote on its' banner to create Death Metal that wasn't listened to in this form yet. After 4 months of existence, the band recorded a first demo tape that wasn't released but used only to hunt for club gigs. Doing that, NECROPHAGIST's reputation was growing as a band outside the norm. 1995 was the year of the 2nd demo tape, which had a heavy impact on the underground, in Germany as well as abroad. With the continuation of playing numerous gigs in Europe and the number of fans growing steadily, the band held its' firm place in the worldwide Death Metal underground.
NECROPHAGIST was plagued with an unsteady line-up from the very beginning, with Muhammed as the only member lasting. The situation became worse right before the recording of "Onset Of Putrefaction", the debut album in 1998. With a 1-CD-deal signed with Velvet Music (France), Muhammed was forced to do the whole album almost completely alone to fulfil the contract. With no promotion done for that album at all, "Onset..." had an impact on the underground that wasn't seen that often before. Especially liked by musicians, the CD also attracted non-musicians likewise.
It took Muhammed more than 2 years from the release of "Onset..." on to find musicians to complete the line-up. The band played a series of club gigs all over Europe and brought the name NECROPHAGIST back in peoples' minds. In 2003, with almost all the stuff written for the new album, NECROPHAGIST prepares to play some gigs with CANNIBAL CORPSE, MARDUK, IMMOLATION, SUFFOCATION etc. in Europe and the US, and to record the new album in August 2003. The band is engaged in talks with labels for this release, the album will be released on a fine label for sure, one way or the other.
