Tarot - Yal Tercer Dia De Sol
Premieres all around, "Yal Tercer Dia De Sol" is the first CD ever to be reviewed on these pages hailing from the Central American country of Honduras. Yes, you've heard correctly, Honduras. And contrary to what we normally get from these countries, TAROT do neither play Black Metal nor brutal Death Metal nor Grindcore (or any mix of these), but Melodic Rock, partly quite popish, but still, Rock.

The production, if not stellar, is surprisingly good (sorry for assuming a not so great production from the start), giving the music of this Tegucigalpa (capital of Honduras) based quintet the right basis to start from. Completely sung in Spanish, I, of course, do not understand a single word, but hey, I have a lot weirder languages in my collection, Estonian or Lithuanian have a quite, ehm, interesting sound as well and in those there is not a single word that I could make out, heh…

The guitars do not stand in the foreground with TAROT, but rather are a homogenous part of the sound, which puts more emphasis on accessible structures, good melodies (partly also borne by acoustic guitars) and the good vocals by Alexis Pineda, as the opening title track shows. Overall the music of "Yal Tercer Dia De Sol" is absolutely radio compatible and not in a negative way, but these five guys brings us very catchy songs, which still show enough substance to stand the test.

Be "careful" though, some of the compositions are very tame and could be a problem for some crunch-addicted ears, because they are very laid back and feature only very few guitars and most probably are too Pop for many among you.

But if you ask me, then TAROT is an excellent album to relax to and/or to just listen to, if you like regular Rock, so they do not need any "exotic" bonus, they can definitely stand on their own. (Online April 15, 2003)
