Brazil seems to have a never ending well of Metal bands of almost all shadings, while there is a good Death Metal scene there, the traditional styles, like Melodic, Heavy and Power Metal have a stronghold in the biggest country of South America. TIGLATH is the latest member of that scene to reach me and they belong into just that latter category, but not the usual one, because with a playing time of more than 33 minutes and six tracks only (one of which being a 30 second intro) this cannot be your standard 4 minute song…
Ok, the quartet does not reinvent the wheel with "The Way Of The Tides", but their MAIDEN influenced Metal has got something that somehow touches me, why ever. After the intro "And Began A War", "Hearts In Flames" brings us some nice MAIDEN-guitar melodies, galloping drums and good vocals, which are not that high, but rather mid pitched, which fits the music very nicely. Also the double bass driven "Silver Core" convinces with its very nice lead guitar and melodies.
The closing "Tiglath Pileser III" is a track definitely worth mentioning as it is a 9 minute plus epic telling the story of a Babylonian king, which nicely shifts moods and intensities, from double bass driven to calm, with a very good flow, so that after its entire length it doesn't even seem to have been that long, which always is a very good quality for a song that long.
Even though TIGLATH do not really provide us anything new or something like that, they do their thing good. Really good, in fact and this is something that they should definitely be credited for, give them a chance, folks, they are on the good side. (Online April 15, 2003)
