ANGTORIA is a new band with a female vocalist. Regardless, I will boldly claim they are not looking to jump on the NIGHTWISH/WITHIN TEMPTATION band wagon; their music's too good for that. The band consists of members of established bands such as MOAHNI MOAHNA or ABYSSOS, but the most prominent member doesn't actually have one...err, I am speaking of Sarah Jezebel Deva, probably known to most as a singer in CRADLE OF FILTH, MORTIIS or THERION.
Her masterfully trained voice ranks, as we all know, among the very finest. However, in ANGTORIA she sings rather slow, but very voluminous. Then there are juicy, minimalist riffs as heard from RAMMSTEIN or EVEREVE. The keyboards are used in a very symphonic fashion, creating bombastic walls of sound. A kind of Gothic Metal for gourmets. They could not help but rework the Kylie Minogue song "Confide In me" to make it sound really good now. Apart from that, this four track disc sounds surprisingly mature, has a perfect production and reveals a newcomer band that's definitely got class and could make a huge impact.
The contract will come, so much is for sure. Only then will the complete line-up be revealed, which consists of well-known musicians. They do not care for going fishing for record contracts using popular names. A commendable attitude! (Online June 5, 2005)
