I'm actually very impressed with the quality of the releases I have heard so far this year. Solid albums from:
Heidevolk
King Giant
Pilgrim
Savage Messiah
Spawn Of Possession
Stone Magnum

A lot of people hated Misery Wizard, but I never checked it out myself.

Goatwhore was amazing.

Misery Wizard is not outstanding, but solid. As far as Trad. Doom goes, I would rate the Stone Magnum release much higher so far this year, but it is good nonetheless.

I'm definitely not in that camp. The Pilgrim isn't great, but I have to put it hands down above the Stone Magnum. Though I'm very curious what the vocalist change will bring about.

Some of my favorites so far this year are on a lot of people's hated lists... the new Manowar in particular. I love the raw production, especially after the overproduced "God of War".

Sabaton - Carolus Rex
Sonata Arctica - Stones Grow Her Name
Freedom Call - Land of the Crimson Dawn
Manowar - Lord of Steel
Borknagar - Urd
Amberian Dawn - Circus Black
Arjen Anthony Lucassen - Lost in the New Real
Luca Turilli's Rhapsody - Ascending to Infinity
Rage - 21

A great year for some of power metal's most acclaimed bands. We'll see what October brings with the new Kamelot!

Totally forgot about this band. How does this album compare to their past material? I was a huge fan of SA until Unia, and then they lost me completely and have fallen off my radar since. I'd be more than happy to embrace them again if this is a solid album.

Also, anybody check out Baroness' Yellow & Green? I'd been seeing mixed reviews, and I wasn't crazy about it at first either, but it's been growing on me with each listen and now I'm realizing that there are some pretty cool tracks on there.
