Bland would be the best description overall. I still think Schaffer shot his last effective shells back in '98. Not to say it's a bad one, but it lacks the bite early Iced Earth once had. It has nothing to do with the Ripper vs Barlow controversy, the songwriting is stale and rehashing the same riffwork over and over surely doesn't ignite any new fire.

I picked up "Flogging Molly - Swagger" on saturday and it's impossible to frown or be sad while that cd is playing. It's my first cd by the group, so I can't compare it to any of their other material.

It's just really fun upbeat music for the most part (there are a couple of slower relaxed songs).

Also picked up "Bal Saggoth - The Chthonic Chronicles" but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.

Just come back from a little music binge, picked this lot up:

Diablo - Renaissance
In Flames - Whoracle
Akercocke - Antichrist
Blinded Colony - Bedtime Prayers
Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
All That Remains - The Fall of Ideals
Iron Maiden - A Matter of Life and Death

Haven't even got round to listening to them all yet.

Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus

Honestly a bit disappointed. Still, I've only listened to it once so far so we'll see if it grows on me. :D

My thoughts on the album:

- Solitude is awesome
- A Sorcerer's Pledge is cool, however it could have been a lot better. It has a lot of potential.
- The Under the Oak version on Tales is a lot better than this one.
- The rest of the songs are pretty uninteresting
- The singer is definitely really good, especially during the calm parts, but also the more "extreme" parts (I crieed for! The ones I lost!).
- The calm intros (like Solitude and A Sorcerer's Pledge) are something they're really good at.
- I wish they would have included an interview on the bonus CD.

But, it's still a pretty cool album. Has some historical value as well.

The following arrived in the mail yesterday:

Shining - III: Angst
Ulver - Blood Inside
Ulver - Perdition City
Seth - Era Decay
Kari - Pilot (it's a cd by the original singer of "The Third and the Mortal")

The Seth cd is pretty cool. If you like black metal with a modern twist to it, you might like this. It's not modern in the "Arcturus/Borknagar" way, it just has good production and has some electronic/industrial type elements here and there.

Blood Inside is a cool chilled out cd for relaxing to.

I've listened to two songs by Kari so far and if you like The Third and the Mortal's more modern stuff (less guitar driven), you'd probably like this, or at least those two songs. It's dark but not in a depressing/sad way.

Still need to listen to the other two cds.

1. After Forever - After Forever
2. Fragments of Unbecoming - Skywards: A Sylphe's Ascension
3. Diablo - Eternium
4. Sworn - Tended High
5. Thurisaz - Scent of a Dream
6. The Human Abstract - Nocturne

5 is godly, 4 and 3 are very good and the rest are decent.

Unearth - The Stings of Conscience
From Autumn to Ashes - Abandon Your Friends
Horse the Band - A Natural Death

Happy with all of those. Especially the From Autumn to Ashes cd.
