"Welcome!" and "I hate you for being Scandinavian...or at least from Iceland"

Do you want the reason? Well, for example: you have Solefald and we have Mägo de Oz (sigh :surrender: )

I'm pretty sure Iceland isnt counted as part of Scandinavia...and I know that Solefald is not Icelandic.
But you guys also have Hemorrhage (or however that goregrind thing was spelled) so it kinda mellows out.

Solefald are Norwegian, even though they write about Icelandic themes. Maybe you're thinking of Sólstafir?

Welcome by the way.v

You know about Sólstafir? :O

One thing that bothers me...there are so many great Icelandic Metal bands and yet none of them really get anywhere abroad.
Well, Beneath might be getting places after Wacken Metal Battle this year, they've been invited to some Death Metal festival in Germany (I think) 2010.
Sólstafir is the best known one I imagine, they even got a review on their latest album in the Terrorizer magazine.
And then there's Sign...not really a Metal band and sadly they arent even that known for their own music (which is alright but nothing special) but rather the horrendrous cover they did of Run to the Hills...

Maybe I should post some of the bands from the local scene here like I did at Skullmetal... :hmm:

Anyways, thanks for the welcomes, I appreciate it. :)

Sólstafir is quite good, I'm considering Köld for my top 20 albums of 2009. I also reviewed another Icelandic Black Metal band called Thule, which took my be surprise and impressed me quite a bit. Is there much of a metal scene to speak of in Reykjavik? I guess there's not much chance of any "scene" outside of Reykjavik, anyways.

Look into Potentiam then.
Thats what Thule became.

And yes, there is a pretty large and powerful scene here in the capital area (made up of Reykjavík and a few other small towns) and actually quite a few in the "northern capital" Akureyri as well.
Pretty diverse as well.
Despite its size and power it still remains underground though.

Why not? It would be nice to discover some new Icelandic groups. I myself happen to know Fortíð and I really appreciate their efforts. The second part of the group's "Völuspá"-trilogy remains for me one of the best things to experience in the Viking Metal genre. I wonder how the third part and the band's future willl be, especially taking consideration to the fact that Fortíð have recently become a group with regular members.

Cheers!

Well, then I will try to be forgiven by recommending a Spanish band

I must admit I am not familiar with Fortíð...the name is definetaly Icelandic, but are you sure the band itself is?
Might be that its a old and/or relatively inactive band though, which would explain why I dont know it.

Also, I mentioned it just to see what you guys would think of it.
If you want to, then I'll definetaly post some local bands. 8)

I am more than sure they are Icelandic ;) Just check them here for instance http://www.metal-archives.com/ , type Fortid in the browser... The band's mastermind has recently found some new fellow musicians in Norway, yet, that does not change the group's origin.

They seem to be based in Norway and with only one Icelandic member(like you just said, Maanegarm)...I aint gonna argue on whether that makes them Norwegian or Icelandic though.

Anyways, should I post some bands here in this thread or make a new one elsewhere?

I'm curious as to whether there are many concerts and similar events going on in the Reykjavik-area. My impression of the city is that it's full of hipsters and trendy nightclubs, not exactly the ideal setting for a metal scene.

It is full of trendies and places that aim for them kinda people. (visited have you?)
But there are also several bars and cafes and [those places where theres often social stuff going on for teenagers, I forget what its called] that allow concerts no matter the genre. Some of them only deal with Metal or Rock related bands.
There's tons of bands around too.

So yes, there are a lot of concerts.
And theres more then enough people to attend as well. Not all of them do, but you can still (and quite often do) get a good showing at a gig.
